Hi there,
New here...as I need some help identifying a dance.
I'm from France and learned and competed in what we call "rock piétiné" which means with small footsteps.
Basically it's a 6 step swing type dance.
Here is a video to give you an idea, though don't look at the quality of the dancers, it's more to show you the steps and the overall dance.
Now I dance it a bit wild but basically that's THE dance I learned.

I live in Santa Cruz, CA now and am able to dance with great fun with one dancer that is a swing dancer but he's bit wild too so it's fun but every time I try to explain someone what dance I was trained for, I just don't know how to name it!
I would greatly appreciate your input on this...
Only, this is OUR version in France AND Europe so there might not be the equivalent in the US, where its originating, how funny...
Thanks!
Sandrine.

  • Looks like international style ballroom dance called "jive". Some ballroom studios in the U.S. teach it, but most people you talk to are not going to know "jive". Closest thing to it here is probably east coast swing.

Here's a video with instructions for basic jive:

    • Another basic jive video

      • Thanks to all of you.
        Cary and Kim are right.
It's very close to jive but as Cary said it's somewhat of a ballroom competition style, yes because my school was a high end one so I guess they taught us to be able to be compete, which I did.
        Anyway, thank you so much.
I'd love to get to dance in the city once in a while, and don't know people in my area who do, so if some of you get to spend a day of leisure in Santa Cruz and would drive me back with them to the City that'd be fantastic and I guess I'd take a bus to come back home at some point.
Just putting it out there! ;))
Also, I'm opened to learn new dance styles, truth is I've always wanted to go acrobatics as we say but my teachers told me I was a bit tall for that, maybe lindy hop would be a good one for me though, I'm on spring and like the "athletic" part of dancing, though I like a good viennese waltz as well.
